This is a band that plays sweet Blues n Rock simply because they love it!
The last couple of years they have been touring round the county, giving people a taste of some fine blues rhythms, and some old fashioned rock just like back in the 1970.
Their repertoire is a big bowl of mixed music from the 60s – 70s but also some fresh new songs they produced themselves. You will hear songs by Eric Clapton, The Beatles, Jimi Hendrix, Allman Bros Band and a lot more…
They call it "Woodstocking Blues" so you who remember Woodstock probably know what to expect! The name U235 really is the atom number of uranium and showed what kind of rock they were playing.
U235, started sometime in 1965-66, not quite sure when, it’s almost 40 years ago! The fact is that during the late 60s, the band did quite a few gigs round the county.
As a so called “Power trio” they were a huge success with that kind of blues based rock that was born by that time. Back in those days, the members of U235 were: Tony Wrethling, guitar and vocals, Ronnie Schuttman, bass and vocals, and Per Renström on drums (later on he was replaced by Glenn Hellström). By that time another instrument had captured Tony’s interest, non other than the violin, and today he’s a well-reputed name in folk-music circles.
He possesses the title of national folk-musician and in 2005 he was honoured with Zorn’s golden medal. Ronnie moved to Stockholm were he stayed for 20 years playing with several different bands, nowadays he’s moved back home. Glenn works as an athletic massage therapist and he’s also nr 1 masseur in the elite hockey team of Brynäs IF.
In the year of 1999 the band had been shattered for many long years, when the old drummer of the band and he’s friend/guitar fanatic Claes Svedberg (who had given up he’s old dream of being a rock musician) started to play, most for fun. Some local talents joined them and they rehearsed in a basement, when suddenly the original member Tony joined in, the old base player Ronnie joined later on.
Now the old U235 was together again, with old and new members. They rehearsed in the basement, but never preformed in public. In 2003 they no longer had a vocalist but remembered that the local electrician was an old musician. Craig Thelin who in the mid 80s had he’s own band(CT Country Band) where he was front figure on vocals and guitar, became the new singer in the band. He was thrilled to be a part of U235, and to sing again.
In 2004 after many years in a basement they finally did their first live performance in Sandviken, it was packed with people and they were a success! Craig’s vocal partner Linn Hellström would shortly thereafter move out of the country in search for luck. The girl who would replace her turned out to be non other than Craig’s daughter Jessica Thelin, and because they had been singing together their whole life this was a highlight.
The oncoming years the band would tour all over the county and get a small but important group of fans.. In 2006 Ronnie would leave the band, but with the base in his lap and music in his back he of course would continue to play. To replace him they thought of CT Country Bands old base player Lars Ström, and gladly joined the band.
Today’s members of the band are counted for below, and as long as there having fun you will enjoy their music!
